Erik Compton's first item of business as a full-fledged PGA Tour member: A little R&R.

"Today's been pretty much a rest day for me," Compton said Monday, back in South Florida after his remarkable heart-transplant story turned the page on a new chapter with the official presentation of his PGA Tour card.

Last weekend's Nationwide Tour Championship marked a fourth straight week of competition – longer than his body ideally can handle. Any fatigue, though, waswholesale jerseys alleviated somewhat by the reward at the end.
Compton received one of the 25 promotions for Nationwide Tour pros, finishing the season No.13 on the money list. The rise comes barely three years after receiving his second transplant.

"It's a lifelong dream," Compton told reporters Sunday. "There are so many people that have been involved with my story, whether it's donors or doctors or family. … It's hard to put it all into a story."

Ocala's Ted Potter Jr., who in May became the first man in five years to win as a Monday qualifier, parlayed that victory into an extended stay that finished with him at No.2 on the money list.

Also earning cards were a trio of former college standouts now living in Jacksonville Beach – Jonas Blixt (FSU), Matt Every (UF) and Russell Knox (Jacksonville). Rounding out the list were Australia's Gavin Coles (Winter Garden), Sweden's Daniel Chopra (Orlando) and Panama City-born Kyle Thompson.

Orlando's Sam Saunders and Jupiter's Morgan Hoffman claimed top honors at two Florida sites as the PGA Tour's qualifying march completed the first of three stages.

Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, shot 66-68 over his final two rounds to top the chart at St. Johns G&CC in St. Augustine. Former UCF standout Connor Arendell (Cape Coral) was among three players one shot back.

Hoffman, an Oklahoma State teammatcheap jerseyse of Rickie Fowler, breezed through four rounds at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie with nothing worse than a 68. He finished four shots ahead of his nearest rival.

Also moving on was Orlando's Ty Tryon, 10 years after first earning his PGA Tour card at age 17. He advanced through a qualifier in McKinney, Texas.

Second-stage qualifying begins in two weeks, with Florida accounting for three of the six qualifying sites – Plantation Preserve (Plantation), Southern Hills Plantation Club (Brooksville) and Hombre GC (Panama City Beach).
