Synopsis

Radhe (Salman Khan) is one of the wheels of the mafias, but with a difference. He is a trained street fighter and shooter who is totally fearless. A man who can keep his cool, in a situation where death itself is looking at him in the eye. He is rebellious and loves to defy authority. He cannot think of being in any other position but the leader's, always fighting his way to impossible goals. He works for Ganibhai, the most dreaded Mafioso, but on his own terms.

Mafia Don Ganibhai (Prakash Raj) has a great mind for strategy, which is razor sharp. He stays in a foreign country but comes to India whenever the need arises. He is revered and feared by friends and foes alike. Ganibhai is the worst enemy anyone could wish for. He is vindictive to the point of being sadistic. He will not only destroy his enemy but wipe him off completely.

Radhe is in love with a girl named Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia). They share a strange love hate relationship. Jhanvi tries to change him by imploring him to leave the world of crime, but Radhe, though he loves her, is too hardcore a criminal to adhere to her wishes.

Radhe moves ahead in his criminal world by single handedly eliminating Ganibhai's enemies with his wit, grit and fearless strategy. A time comes when Ganibhai, whom Radhe has never seen arrives in India specially to meet him. He then offers Radhe a job, which Radhe for the first time refuses point blank, in return making Ganibhai his biggest enemy. Then comes the surprise element of the story, a twist that changes the very premise on which the story is based on. A shocking twist that makes Radhe - WANTED by the mafia and by the law.

Salman Khan’s riding high…and Bollywood is cheering

September 26th, 2009 - 12:30 pm ICT by IANS -

By Joginder Tuteja

Mumbai, Sep 26 (IANS) It’s Salman Khan time in Bollywood. With his full-on actioner “Wanted” becoming a hit, the superstar has millions of rupees riding on his shoulders with three more big-budget films lined up. And all his friends in the industry - from David Dhawan to Vipul Shah - are rejoicing at the actor’s success.

“Wanted” earned about Rs.38 crore (Rs.380 million) across the country in its first week and industry experts feel that the film’s good business will help Salman’s forthcoming releases - “Main aur Mrs. Khanna”, “London Dreams” and “Veer”.

“Salman always knew when and where to strike. He was always very confident about ‘Wanted’ and this is the reason why he went all out to promote the film,” Dhawan, who has worked with Salman in more than half a dozen films, told IANS.

“Forget first weekend collections; it was sheer havoc when Eid festivities began. Audience response inside auditoriums was unprecedented,” he added.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, “Wanted” was a raw action-drama comparable to Aamir Khan’s “Ghajini”.

“Salman may have done one or two bad films in recent times due to which it appeared to some that he was no more in the reckoning. They were mistaken though because he is beyond hits and flops,” said Abbas Burmawalla of director duo Abbas-Mustan.

“His strong fan base could sense from a distance that ‘Wanted’ was a film to watch out for and turned it into such a huge success,” he added.

Salman’s “Yuvvraaj” and “God Tussi Great Ho” bombed at the box office and many believed he was down and out. But the industry doesn’t quite believe so.

” ‘Wanted’ is Salman’s one-man show. Yes, everyone involved with the film has done a fabulous job, but it is Salman’s pull that got the audiences into theatres. Otherwise director Prabhu Deva was making his first Hindi film while Ayesha Takia isn’t amongst the top three heroines that we have today,” said Sanjay Kapoor, brother of Boney Kapoor who produced “Wanted”.

“He gave ‘Wanted’ his full support and led the entire promotional campaign. He was supremely excited about the film and gave his heart, body, soul and time to its making followed by promotion,” he added.

Vipul Shah, who has worked with Salman in the film “London Dreams” that releases Oct 30, is happy that Salman’s three-film stint this year has got off to a good start with “Wanted”.

“My promotion plan though is not as expensive as that of ‘Wanted’. We are going right ahead in creating awareness around ‘London Dreams’, but the spillover of ‘Wanted’ should also help our campaign. Since ‘Wanted’ is all over, I am sure the euphoria and Salman’s presence amongst audiences will continue for many more weeks to come,” said Shah.

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who has never worked with Salman, is a little guarded before declaring this as a golden run of the actor.

” ‘Wanted’ has done quite well in India but its fate in the overseas market has been contradictory. With crores of rupees riding on his shoulders in the current season on ‘Veer’, ‘London Dreams’ and ‘Main aur Mrs.Khanna’, all due to release shortly, god forbid if anything goes wrong, it will have severe repercussions on the industry’s economy. This is just another interesting phase for Salman…,” he said.

Himesh Reshammiya, with whom Salman has had a decade-long association, has a final word though. “Salman was a superstar, is a superstar and will always remain a superstar.”

Wanted Set To Emerge First Blockbuster Of 2009

Saturday 26th September 2009 08.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Wanted is almost certain to emerge first blockbuster of 2009 and is definitely the biggest hit of 2009. The first week nett collections seem to be in 36 crore region with the distributor share being a huge 23 crore plus which is similar to what Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi did and higher than what Love Aaj Kal did. The single screen business has been phenomenal and is strong going into second week.

Overall the film looks likely to be amongst the top ten theatrical revenue earners ever in India. The lifetime share may well be close to 40 crore which will put it up there with Krissh and Om Shanti Om and ahead of films like Welcome, Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Single-Screen Cinemas Get New Lease Of Life

[September 26, 2009 by TFSJ
The mind-boggling collections of Wanted at single-screen cinemas across the country have made owners of such cinemas heave a collective sigh of relief.
It is after ages that many of the cinemas have seen such bumper collections. The last film which scored fabulously well in single-screen cinemas was Ghaji*ni, but Wanted has smashed the records of even Ghajini at several single-sceen cinemas. Some of the single-screens, where Ghajini was not released but where Wanted was released, have got to see dream collections like never before! The box-office per*forman*ce of Wanted in the single-screens of India has brought the spotlight on such cinemas once again, more so because collections of the film have not been half as good in the multiplexes.

This goes to prove that raw action as in Wanted and Ghajini is still the staple diet of the public which frequents single-screen cinemas. If Ghajini simultaneously swept the audience off its feet in the multiplexes across the nation, it was because although its action was raw, its love story held a strong appeal for the gentry. That appeal for the classes and the multiplex-frequenting public is missing in Wanted, which is the reason why its collections in the multiplexes, especially of metropolitian cities like Bombay and Delhi, are not half as good as those of Ghajini.

Salman Khan’s Wanted is a Blockbuster!

At a time when Bollywood was desperately in need of a blockbuster, Salman Khan has delivered and how! Wanted is the first Blockbuster of 2009 and the craze for the movie in India has to be witnessed to be believed. The word of mouth is by far the positive, as the movie has been universally accepted and while the collections at multiplexes have witnessed the usual weekly drop (around 40%), its at the single screen where all the ‘Wanted’ action is taking place.

Business at single screen across the country is rock steady, at several centers better than its first weekend collections.

The fact that the movie seems certain for long steady run, should make it Salman Khan’s biggest HIT this decade.

With a blockbuster in Wanted, a super-hit television show Dus Ka Dum and a good line-up of upcoming releases (Veer, Main Aur Mrs Khanna).. Salman Khan’s career is suddenly looking better than ever!

Wanted Has 11.50 Crore Nett Extended Weekend

Tuesday 28th September 2009 12.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Wanted has grossed around 11.50 crore nett over its second weekend which included Dusshera Monday. The film now has an 11 day total of near 45.75 crore nett. Wanted continues to perform fabulously at single screens all over with hindi belt showing hardly any drops from first weekend. Multiplexes in the big cities are giving average performance but due to single screens being so big it makes it look like multiplexes are poor.

The approx breakdowns for the second weekend were 2.25 crore nett on Friday, 2.50 crore on Saturday, 3.75 crore nett on Sunday and 3 crore nett on Dusshera Monday. The film should cross 50 crore nett by the end of week two.

The two week distributor share will be close to 31 crore which will put it amongst the top fifteen revenue earners ever after just two weeks. The near 33 crore share of this years biggest hit prior to Wanted will be crossed by the end of Wanted's third weekend.

Is Sallu's success bothering Aamir?
Apparently the Ghajini star is feeling the heat after Wanted became an instant hit

Who would have thought it would boomerang on him like that... Certainly not Aamir Khan! We all know Aamir and Salman share a great rapport and have been friends for years now. Aamir has even agreed to walk the ramp for Salman's Being Human show at the upcoming Couture Week.

Someone who is so used to winning laurels on the professional front, Aamir loves to give his best fight. Buzz is that he is keeping a close tab on Sallu's marketing plans, especially after the super success of Wanted.

Few knows, it was actually Aamir who had helped Salman plan his moves when the latter approached him for suggestions just before the release of Wanted. But its huge success and the massive collections at the box office in the second week itself left Aamir a bit shaken.

Grapevine has it that this time around Aamir wants to play his cards for 3 Idiots the way Salman has been doing so far.

Anything for a hit, right?!

Do Knot Disturb And Wake Up Sid Open Strongly
Dil Bole Hadippa showed a big drop in collections in week two. The second week business was around 5 crore nett taking its two week total to 22.50 crore nett. BELOW AVERAGE

Wanted is a one horse race and was super strong at single screens in week two and managed to gross around 18 crore nett business in week two. The film remained strong on weekdays and has also opened well in its third week despite the competition of two strong new releases. The two week nett business is around the 52 crore mark. WUS 1.60 Crore, Do Knot Distrub 1.75 Crore on Monday
•October 6, 2009 • 2 Comments

Box-office was holding cold breath on Monday with mere 1.6 Crore for WUS And 1.75 Crore for Do Knot Disturb. Next week will be deciding factor for both movies and if fail to hold their own, will prove to be last breath.

On the other hand Wanted has fair chance to sustain strongly at single screens even on Diwali holidays as all Diwali releases are multiplex fairs, except All The Best to some extent

Take my money, Salim Khan offered Boney
When Boney Kapoor was going through a rough financial patch before the release of Wanted, Salim Khan generously offered Rs one crore to bail him out

Boney Kapoor was moved to tears. The producer was going through a rough financial patch before the release of Wanted; and sources say a traumatised Boney was ready to beg, borrow, steal to make his labour of love reach the theatres.

Of course, Salman Khan had been co-operation personified. He reportedly charged Boney only Rs 7 crore for the film, while his market price is nothing less than Rs 25 crore. A proud Boney wouldn’t dream of asking Salman for any more favours.

Boney shares a very close relationship with the entire Salim Khan khandaan. His son Arjun Kapoor even dated Salimsaab’s youngest daughter Arpita Khan once and the two remain best friends, so the Khans think of Boney as extended family.

Realising his predicament, Salim Khan actually met him and offered to lend him up to Rs one crore.

Salim is said to have told Boney, “Look, I’m not here to help in the capacity of the hero’s father. And, I can only offer you Rs one crore because that is the only amount I have immediate access to. So if you need it, I can make out a personal cheque to you from my side.’’

Salim Khan said, “I seriously don’t know what the fuss is all about. I think every human being should be doing this for a friend. I know people who have crores lying in Swiss banks and benaami accounts but they will not help you with even a lakh when it comes to the crunch. In fact, if you tell someone that you are looking for monetary help, that is the surest way of driving them away from your life. I think most of us are born selfish.

“And when one of us does something, like I did, I am looked at as an aberration. Honestly, tell me what good is my money if I can’t help someone in his hour of need. How much money, I won’t comment. It is entirely between Boney and me.”
